Conclusion

This lab precipitated our learning of how to operate and understand a spectrophotometer – with our new-found comprehension we were able to use the machine to calculate the wavelength of the grape juice.  We learned how to calculate the transmittance and absorption of a solution, in our case the solution was grape juice.  In addition we were able to create a graph, plotting the numbers we calculated for transmittance and absorbance.  By facilitating the capabilities of Excel we determined the line slope which is the method that is used to determine the unknown concentrations.

To ameliorate our experiment there are several things that we could have done.  To be more accurate with our results we could have performed the experiment as least one more time; we performed it twice.  To achieve the degree of preciseness that the professionals have, the same cuvette should be used for each measurement.  This is a good idea because each cuvette has very slight differences that could affect the reading.  If these extra measures were to be taken then the readings would be more precise.
